Do You Dare To Dream?

Throw Aways

January 30th, 2014

“An estimated 1.1 million members of the 2012 high school graduating class not earning diplomas” (Education Week, 2012).

Who cares? Do you?

No one speaks for them and they become invisible.

Why do educators attribute blame to the student and the student’s parents/community and not look for a radical shift in ways to create a learning environment that engages potential dropouts?

Where is the leadership?

January 29th, 2014

Where is the leadership for inner city schools that will transform the schools into vibrant learning institutions?

Where is the leadership in inner city communities that will scream that enough is enough and lead a transformation of the living environment?

Someone has to speak for the powerless, marginalized, and disenfranchised. Someone has to move WORDS into ACTION.

Who is Marginalized?

January 27th, 2014

Why are the powerful blind to the existence of the poor?

Why do politicians generate policies and laws that provide greater benefit to the privileged?

These questions come to mind as I read about the growing disparity between rich and poor and see only lip service being paid to the widening division.

Why is it that students in inner-city schools continue to score low on achievement tests?

Is it possible that educators  ask the wrong questions about how they teach and how students learn?

What would it look like if educators dared to imagine every inner-city child succeeding and being offered a four-year scholarship to a university?

Do you dare ask these questions?
